The 2017 edition of Hon Wallang
Richard’s football tournament and Dighambong Anthony’s handball tournament ended
on a positive note in Bangwe Zone with new champions emerging. In football, Young
Stars, walloped cup holder FC Madrid, 4-1 after post match penalties to grab
the trophy, while Action Ladies are this year’s champions of the first edition
of Dighambong Anthony’s handball tournament.
Supporters and onlookers came from
far and near to witness this groundbreaking finals. From the far off Aguli
Mukangeh, to the rice plains of Obang, the ever busy semi urban Befang town, the
mountainous and hilly Ngoh-kesu, Bangwe itself, and special guests from Wum,
only to watch, appreciate and encourage young talents. Bangwe was indeed at the
center of attraction on Sunday August 27th 2017.
The football
finals that generated a lot of fireworks, was a golden opportunity, for the
entire village to be united around their favorite sport; football. Come together
as one people, the Lord Mayor of Wum Council, used the opportunity to call on
all youth of school age, to return to classes come Monday September 4th
2017, and urged parents to help these children, by taking them to school and
forming vigilante groups so as to fish out those who destroy our schools.
They were
further called to shun fear and prepare a brighter future for our kids, by
providing them an opportunity of learning. It should be noted here that Hon
Wallang Richard’s football tournament in Bangwe is a yearly event that drains youth
from Ngoh-kesu and Bangwe villages, to gather around their passion. The Mayor
reassured the populations that colors will be added to next year’s edition.
Prizes included cash and a giant football trophy.
