Mayor setting the ground work for fire works |
Dighambong
Anthony’s maiden football tournament was far from being plagued by low scoring,
the usual empty seats and apathy among the people of host playing ground. On
the field, the five teams that registered for the completion, spectacularly
thrilled the ever massive population that often turned out to watch the
encounters of the first and second round. Despite the unfriendly weather and
the rain that fell, Real Madrid's surprise success gave us a wonderful
narrative.
The
competition followed the same pattern like in other zones. Organizational
difficulties at first and a lot of dull matches. But what makes the tournament
special is that this maiden edition has produced a fairy-tale or heart wrenching
story on the field.
Think
unfancied Luguere reaching the final and, most notably, Real Madrid winning
their first title of Dighambong Anthony’s football tournament.
This
year's fable obviously to winners Real Madrid, a team judged to be one of
the best. Despite being led one nil from a penalty kick, Real Madrid did not
give up as they later equalized and won their game on post-match penalties. (2-1)
Real Madrid’s team captain limps and
winces up the steps with his team-mates. For the first time in a while he is
wearing the broadest smile. After a few selfies and a lot of jumping around, he
lifts the trophy, screams with delight and starts kissing it. He looks like he
cannot believe this has happened. The worst moment of the encounter has turned
into the greatest.
"We
are still not on the highest level. We need to be much better, but it's already
a great beginning," the chief organizer of the competition in Mbinjam
after their unexpected triumph at this first experience.
