A SPEECH PRESENTED BY COUNCILLOR BUO EPHRAIM AMUH, CHAIRPERSON OF WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE COMMITTEE FOR WUM COUNCIL ON THE OCCASION OF THE GRADUATION OF THE FOURTH BATCH OF WUM COUNCIL HOLIDAY WORKERS TODAY 1ST SEPTEMBER, 2017
·        THE SENIOR DIVISIONAL OFFICER FOR MENCHUM,
·        THE DIVISIONAL OFFICER FOR WUM SUB DIVISION,
·        THE LORD MAYOR OF WUM COUNCIL,
·        DEAR COUNCILLORS
·        ALL OTHER PROTOCOL DULY RESPECTED,
·        LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
It gives me a singular pleasure and profound gratitude to address this very important assembly.
In fact, it is the fourth consecutive time I stand here annually to welcome you on this important occasion.
Today marks the end of the Wum council holiday workers. They have been working for two months within the municipality.
I wish to thank the Wum council for this marvelous initiative for keeping these students busy , abstaining them from sexual abuse, stealing drug abuse, drunkenness and other social ills.
For these two months, the students worked in the following places: Wum council premises, Wum market, cattle market, Army camp divisional delegations, Administrative Offices, main streets, schools, churches, palaces, Hospital; culverts were kept clean, gutters were dug in some quarters to ease accessibility, environmental hygiene was also enhanced.
Every morning devotion started with the singing of the national anthem, prayers, riddles and moral rectitude. Every working day started from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
It was not all that smooth for these two months. Many difficulties were encountered:- absenting without permission, gross disrespect to hierarchy by some students, abandonment of work by some students. On the part of the population, some quarters were insolent, especially the population of Bikom quarter, GTHS junction and Ghidze quarters.
We therefore call on the council to follow up the work so far done, in order that the town should uphold the cleanliness it deserves.
People living beside the roads should constantly keep the areas clean, open up the culverts. Summons should be given to defaulters.
I equally thank the Lord Mayor and the secretary general of Wum council for their constant advice.
To God the Almighty from whom life emanates, we are very grateful
-         Long live Wum Council
-         Long live Menchum Division
-         Long live our dear fatherland Cameroon.
